Hospice of Michigan Granted Honors Status for Excellence in Care

Gaylord, Alpena and Southeast teams earn prestigious Hospice Honors award

ANN ARBOR, Mich. (Sept. 13, 2021) Hospice of Michigan (HOM) has been recognized for providing exemplary care to patients and families in several communities across Michigan through the Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (CAHPS®) survey. With their continued excellence in comfort care, HOM teams in Gaylord and Alpena earned Hospice Honors status for the fifth consecutive year and all four Southeast Michigan teams were recognized for the second year in a row.

Hospice Honors are based on results of the prestigious CAHPS survey, which polls patients and families. Issued across a variety of health care disciplines, the CAHPS survey measures many aspects of consumer satisfaction over a six-month period, including communication skills of providers and ease of access to health care services.

The Hospice Honors designation is a landmark compilation of hospices providing the best patient and caregiver experience. Established by HEALTHCAREfirst, this prestigious annual review recognizes hospices that continuously provide the highest level of quality as measured from the caregiver’s point of view.

All Hospice of Michigan families receive the evaluation highlighting 24 quality indicator measures following a loved one’s passing. In achieving Hospice Honors designation, the teams based in Gaylord, Alpena, Bloomfield Hills, Southfield, Macomb, and Dearborn received scores above the national average on more than 20 of the survey’s questions.

“Being recognized with Hospice Honors is a testament to the quality of comfort care we provide and affirms that we are achieving the excellence that we strive for,” said HOM President and CEO Bob Cahill. “I’m grateful to be part of a team that cares so deeply about service excellence in patient care, and we are all honored at Hospice of Michigan to be deemed worthy of this prestigious award by the patients and families in our communities that we serve.”
